ALC NetworX – now Lawo

As of the 1st January 2024, ALC NetworX has merged with professional audio manufacturer and IP networking pioneer Lawo, meaning that it is no longer a standalone company. Based in Munich, Germany, the team of highly regarded pro-audio experts with in-depth knowledge of networking technologies at ALC NetworX (now Lawo) developed the RAVENNA technology platform.

About RAVENNA

RAVENNA is a technology for real-time distribution of audio and other media content in IP-based network environments. Utilizing standardized network protocols and technologies, RAVENNA can operate on existing network infrastructures. RAVENNA is designed to meet the strict requirements of the pro audio market featuring low latency, full signal transparency and high reliability. While primarily targeting the professional broadcast market, RAVENNA is also suitable for deployment in other pro audio market segments like live sound, fixed installations, and recording. RAVENNA is fully compatible with the AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110 standards. Liaisons with standards organizations and industry alliances (e.g. AES, AIMS, AMWA, SMPTE and others) ensure the close alignment of RAVENNA technology with current industry trends.

RAVENNA Partners

While Lawo will continue to keep the lead role in the RAVENNA technology development, product implementations are executed by individual partner companies, including; DirectOut, Genelec, Merging Technologies, Peavey, Q-bit, Riedel, Ross Video, and many others. For a complete list of current partner companies, please see www.ravenna-network.com/partner/.

ALC NetworX was presented a TechEmmy Award in 2020 for outstanding contribution to the development of synchronized multi-channel uncompressed audio transport over IP.

Andreas Hildebrand, RAVENNA technology evangelist, said: "Looking back to the beginning about 16 years ago, we were enthusiastic about developing an IP-based transport technology for real-time audio data, matching the stringent performance and quality criteria of professional broadcast applications.

“We invited some selected industry partners to introduce our ideas and demonstrated our proof of concept prototypes. All were excited about the idea of a commonly accepted transport technology, based on existing standards and openly available without any patent or licensing restrictions. At IBC 2010, RAVENNA was introduced to the public and made a huge impact. Since then, over 50 companies have joined the RAVENNA partner community and helped pave the way for RAVENNA's success in the professional broadcast market.

“AES67, and in turn, SMPTE ST 2110 were developed and closely followed the definitions and principles set forth earlier for RAVENNA. Consequently, AES67 is just another profile for RAVENNA ("AES67 built-in") and SMPTE ST 2110-31 (transport of AES3 data) has even been directly taken from RAVENNA's existing AM824 definition.

“Finally, the reception of the prestigious TechEmmy Award in 2020 was the ultimate honour for the work throughout the past years. However, this success would not have been possible without the commitment and passion of all our RAVENNA partners!
